New to yoga? Perhaps it has been a while since you’ve practiced. This series will provide you with a basic knowledge of yoga postures, centering, breathing and relaxation techniques. Emphasis is placed on body awareness, alignment, and connecting breath with movement.

Students are guided into each posture with step by step instructions and provided verbal and hands on assistance as needed. The class is taught in a workshop format, providing students with opportunities to ask questions and to learn how to modify postures to meet their bodies’ needs. Yoga builds strength, flexibility and balance in the body and develops the ability to focus and concentrate as the mind chatter quiets. Learning to practice and be in the present moment relieves stress and develops our capacity to find and settle into the calm and peace within.

Basic Level: Practice the basic postures & explore the health benefits of a personal yoga practice. This 4-week series will provide you with the basic foundation and information you will need to start a successful yoga practice. If you have been considering learning yoga or have recently begun a yoga practice, this class will benefit and encourage your practice.

Benefits: The mental benefits include increased body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns in the body; relieves muscle strain; relaxes the mind and body; centers attention; sharpens concentration; and frees the spirit.

Be Prepared for Class: It is not advisable to eat or drink right before a yoga practice. Eat no less than 1-3 hours before and drink only small amounts of water before practice, and do not drink during your practice if possible. Wear comfortable clothing. Its important to wear something that will not restrict your movement.
