Getting To Know and Preparing for Your Thai Yoga Massage

By In Yoga On September 14, 2010

Thai Yoga is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. In this unique healing system the practitioner guides the recipient through a series of postures and operates on the theory that the body has a multitude of energy lines that run throughout, called “sen.” Thai Yoga works on muscles as well as connective tissue such as fascia, tendons, and ligaments. A significant part of the practice of Thai massage also includes assisted yoga-like stretches and breath work to create a powerful release of stress and tension which are intended to stimulate the sen and move energy through the body.

Thai YogaThe practitioner incorporates rhythmic motion, acupressure, palming and thumbing along energy lines, to increase vitality and a sense of well-being around the recipient’s body. Thai massage is a relaxing, revitalizing treatment that can soothe aches and pains, restore lost flexibility and bring the systems of the body back to a state of balance.

When we connect with our bodies, minds and spirits through these ancient healing arts we’re reminded that boundaries dissolve and deep healing occurs. Thai Massage can provide significant benefits to virtually all major systems of the body that are long-lasting and promote health and well-being.

In preparation for your Thai Yoga Massage Session, please allow 2 hours since your last meal if possible, all forms of massage are best done with your stomach neither full nor empty. Wear comfortable breathable clothing that covers your legs.  Full pants are preferable to shorts and for maximum comfort, it is helpful to bring with you a pair of clean fresh socks. You should always be comfortable, relaxed and breathing easily during a session.
